Lots of technobbable and run-on sentences below, skip at will.
Okay, so today (yesterday) I decided that my next experiment on Sungel would be compiling and running mplayer1.0rc1 with my shiny XUbuntu install. Problem is, Sungel is kinda, uh, lacking an internet connection. XD I've, fortunately, managed to locate a usb drive, from which I've been updating everything I needed to update so far.
To sum up the technobabble, I managed to compile (not without installing a couple of developer packages I had to download first) without the frontend. I gave up on the frontend when I checked the packages dependencies and said "okay, that's a whole load of dependencies and the hell I'm downloading those one by one". Then later on, Javi said there was a metapackage with all of those dependencies. Which, btw, I couldn't find. Bleh. I need my Restricted packages.
Anyway, back to compiling, I decided to compile without a frontend, gave a couple of odd errors but ./configure worked anyway. I forgot to use sudo on the first make install, oops :P After the second one I finally got an mplayer.exe, but it seems to me it didn't include the codecs over the compile, because when I tried to play a couple of videos it just gave me some weird screeching sounds. Since I was at a loss at such error, I decided to go have some dinner and then I forgot about it. Until now.
Then before that we found some interesting mplayer svn builds and we were drooling at the matrixview port those builds included. And this has got to be the geekiest thing EVER. I really mean it. XD
Thanks to Javi, now I'm running all of my videos over verbose mode with mplayer. Watching those numbers scrolling by is kinda entertaining (and hypnotizing). He's always whining about how Tai-Rei's recent encodings tend to cycle due to some odd problem that's got to do with the encoding or the fps or god knows what. Their files play fine over my CCCP'ed BSPlayer, but that's not the point here. XD Then there's the thing about T-N's encodings, which he has to resize manually by giving mplayer the proper parameters (since I usually run mplayer on fullscreen and my LCD isn't widescreen, I've got no problem whatsoever with whatever resolution you guys use (hey, aldalin and kouryuuou :P ); the video does lag a teensy little bit and sometimes the sound appears before the video, but it's nothing I'd whine about or nothing I can't solve with a couple of seeks XD
I think the konfabulator guys never thought of making zero a valid value. Either that or I'm not getting the correct value here. XD The thunderstorm icon is pretty cool though.
